2019 in Review

2019 was our second year in business and an exciting one at that. The start of the year commenced with the installation of the new shelving inside the store to allow for an increased range of products and improved displays, followed by our Paint Department renovations. In April, works commenced at the rear of the store which has increased our storage area by double and allowed for an improved inward delivery system for our suppliers.

In May 2019, we attended the Hardware and Building Traders 2019 Annual Conference held in Melbourne. 3 days of workshops, guest speakers and supplier demonstrations were held, followed by the Awards Night, which we were honoured to receive the 2019 National Store of the Year Award in front of 600 industry peers. June 2019 seen us welcome a brand-new Isuzu Crane Truck into our delivery fleet. This new addition allows for improved delivery options for our trade customers and the ability to stock and deliver new product ranges. The second half of 2019 we commenced our monthly product update email, our printed Spring Catalogue was distributed and we even joined Instagram in the social media world.

We held our first HeadStart program on-site in August where we provided an opportunity for local students to interact with local trades and businesses to explore future employment opportunities. Read more about this program here.

In September, our team put on their running shoes and headed off in the 2019 Run the Maine to support and raise funds for Castlemaine Health. While in October, we attended the 2019 Hardware Australia Industry Awards Gala Dinner in Melbourne, with finalist throughout Victoria and Tasmania, the calibre was high. Our Garden Centre was a finalist in the Garden Centre of the Year and our store took out the 2019 Store of the Year – Victoria and Tasmania (under 2500smq) category in what was a wonderful night of celebrations.

In November our new website was released and we were busily stocking the shelves in anticipation for the Christmas holidays. Early December we attended the Mount Alexander Business Awards to celebrate being a finalist in the Retail and Hospitality category with many other great businesses in the Castlemaine and surrounding areas. We closed out the year with renovations to our drive thru roller doors to increase the height and allow for a smoother delivery process of our supplier’s semi-trailers, reduce vehicle noise to our residential neighbours and ease the traffic congestion around our store. The introduction of Christmas was made by Woody the Elf, who took over our social media pages for the month of December providing great entertainment to our followers.

Whilst 2019 was a year of great recognition for us with local, state and national awards, we want to take this opportunity to thank our team of staff. Some of whom we have farewelled this year as they went on to new adventures and others who we have welcomed in to our team. Without this team of dedicated staff, we wouldn’t be able to achieve all we have in 2019. We are looking forward to more exciting developments in 2020.
