2020 in Review

2020 – what a year for all!

The year started off in January with broken hearts as bushfires destroyed many parts of our country. We were able to assist a local organisation with materials and supplies to help house and rehabilitate animals who lost their homes and were injured. Our thoughts went to those affected and we are very grateful for the amazing service provided by the fire authorities during this time as they kept our local community, state and country safe.

We were fortunate to hold two events in February. Matt from Lawnporn visited us in store and met with our customers to discuss his lawn care products offering his advice and recommendations. We have the full range of Lawnporn products in store, check them out next time you are in. The Soudal Australia van also visited us and cooked up a delicious breakfast whilst demonstrating how their products work for our customers. Our trade customers were impressed by the new products available in the Soudal range. Unfortunately, our visit by the Makita Australia Truck was cancelled. We are hoping to secure a return in 2021 as this is an event sure to please many!

In March, we as a local community felt the first effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic when the Victorian State Government commenced the first lockdown. In this time, we were fortunate enough the Mount Alexander region were supported by residents who shopped local as they pivoted their businesses. Our customers showed patience and respected our staff by following the rules that were implemented to keep everyone safe. This has continued all year and has been humbling to see the continued support for not only us, but many local businesses.

As we neared the end of the first lockdown in May we teamed up with other local businesses for our Mother’s Day Give Away on social media. The wonderful Lynne Watt was the lucky recipient of a gift pack featuring products from Taylors Home Centre, Stevens Mensland, Maine Shoes & Accessories, Run Rabbit Run and ourselves. With over 140 entries it was great to see this giveaway supported by so many.

Sadly, this year’s Hardware and Building Traders 2020 Annual Conference planned for May 2020 was postponed and a virtual event took place in October. With the 2021 conference scheduled for the Gold Coast we are looking forward to meeting our suppliers and checking out the latest in hardware and building products available.

Despite 2020 being the year of many cancellations of events, we were thrilled to be awarded the Vuetrade Store of the Year award. We were honoured to be awarded this by our supplier. You can read more about the award on our blog.

As Father’s Day arrived in September, we had also entered the second lockdown for Victoria to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. We were very fortunate again to see our local community continue to shop local and support us.

In 2020 we were still able to complete some renovations to the store we had planned. We had new fencing installed at the front and rear of the store, additional racking inside and out for our increased product ranges and just before Christmas we were able to complete the front car park extension allowing for much bigger area for our customers to park.

Woody the Elf returned once again for Christmas and this year we welcomed his new additions to the family. Check out our social media pages to learn of their adventures through December.

Whilst 2020 wasn’t the year anyone had envisaged; we have seen our local community adapt. What is pleasing has been the support shown by many shopping local, leaving reviews on social media and google, recommending us to family and friends. A big thank you to our loyal customers – we are able to continue to expand our product ranges and services because of your continued support.

Again, a year in business cannot be done without a team of staff around you and that team has been exceptional throughout the year. They have had to adapt to the constant rule changes that living through a pandemic has seen and have shown up each day with a smile on their faces. To our team, thank you for all you do. We look forward to improving our business with you in 2021.

Our store will be closed New Year’s Day and re-open at 8.30am Saturday 2nd January 2021.

We look forward to seeing you in-store in 2021!
